Queer stars who stunned at the 2022 Met Gala

The first Monday in May marks a truly momentous occasion in the fashion world–the Met Gala. Held annually in New York City, this year’s theme was "In America: An Anthology of Fashion." The concept continues the Costume Institute exhibition's series focused on American style.

The first part, titled "In America: A Lexicon of Fashion," was last year's theme. Originally organized by Anna Wintour in 1995, the Met Gala is regarded as one of fashion's biggest nights. Additionally, the event serves as a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.

For the first time in two years, the Met Gala is back at its original schedule and many queer talents dressed to the nines and ultimately stunned on the red carpet. Take a look at some of the garments making the headlines.

Janelle Monáe

In a gorgeous Ralph Lauren attire, Janelle’s look was deemed an event highlight. Channeling futuristic gilded glamour, Monáe dazzled in front of the cameras in a timeless black gown with a statement hood.

Tommy Dorfman

In her Met Gala debut, Dorfman stepped out in an edgy latex number. The gown was even strung together with gold chains and a dramatic long skirt. Her small emerald green clutch added some glitz to her look.

Ariana DeBose

Recent Oscar winner, Ariana DeBose wowed attendees with a gown very much on theme. Literally dripping in gold, the baroque Moschino gown paired elegantly with matching ornate opera gloves.

Tessa Thompson

In a much-needed break from heavy jewel tones, actress Tessa Thompson floated down the red carpet in a soft pink tulle gown. To add a little drama was a giant fluffy train made to grace the Met Gala stairs.

Cara Delevingne

In a red satin suit accompanied by a cane, model, and actress Cara Delevingne always makes a statement through fashion. However, once the jacket came off to reveal her bare chest, covered only by gold body paint and nipple coverings,, the carpet went into a frenzy.

Melissa King

Openly gay winner of Top Chef All-Stars showed her golden claws designed by Lillian Shalom. Additionally, chef Melissa looked dapper and refreshing in a tux paired with shorts.

Lena Waithe

For her latest Met Gala appearance, Waithe worked the room clad in a beaded Versace ensemble. Her aqua blue monochromatic fit truly stood out among the various metallic tones walking the carpet this year.

MJ Rodriguez

One thing is for sure, MJ Rodriguez knows how to make an entrance. The Pose star did so last night in a decadent gold ombré gown with a matching evening cap.

Phoebe Bridgers

This bisexual indie rocker recently served up in a glittering gown. Her slicked-back hair and a dark lip are giving 20’s glam in her debut appearance at the Met.

Dove Cameron

In her Met Gala debut, Cameron came to slay in what is being dubbed the “Spiral Nebula” gown from Iris van Herpen. The futuristic number was complete with architectural boning and flowing tassel sleeves.

Emma Corrin

Turning heads in an oversized plaid coat by Miu Miu, nonbinary film star Emma Corrin walked the carpet complete with a giant black top hat placed on her cropped bleach-blonde haircut.
