Alaska announces engagement in celebratory Instagram post

Alaska has announced she is engaged! The popular drag artist revealed the beautiful news to her fans this week in a statement.

“My longtime partner Matthew Herrmann proposed to me yesterday,” Alaska told Entertainment Weekly. She said he popped the question following Alaska’s grandmother’s 90th birthday in her hometown of Erie, Pennsylvania.

Alaska shared that Herrmann “is a Los Angeles-based producer and educator.”

“I love him so much and he’s the best,” she added.

The Drag Star later shared an Instagram photo on Monday celebrating the news with her followers. In it, she showed off a silver band on the ring finger,

“💍 💍 🥰🥰” Alaska captioned the post.

Alaska is best known for her appearance on season 5 RuPaul’s Drag Race, ultimately finishing the show as a finalist.  She later returned to the franchise to win All Stars 2 in 2016.

In addition to her Drag Race history, Alaska also co-hosts the Race Chaser podcast alongside fellow Drag Race alum William.

Messages of support and well wishes are pouring in for the couple. Denali wrote, "omg congrats lasky!!" Meanwhile, Season Miss Peppermint simply commented, "Congrats mama!"

Rosé chimed in, "🥰🥰🥰 love you :) congratulations to you both."

Alaska was previously in a relationship with Drag Race season 4 winner Sharon Needles; however, the couple split in 2013.
