Bad Bunny and the conservative backlash against his Super Bowl headliner show
Share
News that Bad Bunny was announced as the halftime act sent the world abuzz on Sunday. While most of the country sees him as a headliner, we desperately need them during these times of political chaos, other, more conservative football fans are less than thrilled.
Bad Bunny critics are heated over his “woke ideology,” even referencing when he broke the internet when he dressed in drag in the music video for his 2020 single Yo Perreo Sola.
“This is a national disgrace,” said another MAGA account. “This person hates America, is a Drag Queen & has NO English songs.”
At the time, the artist told Rolling Stone he did it to “show support to those who need it.” He continued to say, “I may not be gay, but I’m a human who cares.”
Governor Gavin Newsom of California, a vocal MAGA movement opponent, was quick to tease Bad Bunny haters.
“Im bOyCoTtInG ThE SuPeR BoWl bEcAuSe bAd bUnNy dReSsEd iN DrAg,” the official account posted late Monday, with a picture appearing to show Vance wearing a blonde wig and eyeliner.
The image first circulated during the 2024 presidential election campaign and was reportedly taken while Vance was studying at Yale.

More recently, though, the reggaeton singer pushed back at Trump’s policies regarding immigration by deciding not to include the U.S. in his 2025-2026 tour over fears that ICE agents “could be outside” his concert venues.
US residents could instead travel to Puerto Rico for his residency performances. The island saw a large tourist and economic boom as a result.
“What Benito has done and continues to do for Puerto Rico is truly inspiring,” Jay-Z said. We are honored to have him on the world’s biggest stage.”
Super Bowl LX is scheduled to take place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on Sunday, February 8, 2026.
