Bimini Bon Boulush is opening up to fans about their struggles with substance abuse and mental health after appearing on Drag Race UK’s season two.
Bimini ultimately made it to the finale of her season but admits she went through feelings of imposter syndrome of her achievements.
Despite being sober for a year before competing on the reality show, Bimini says fame after the season was a trigger.
“I felt so much pressure, almost like a fraud and I didn’t deserve it. I slipped back into a cycle,” Bimini shared.
“There has been some incredible amazing opportunities and I’ve got to do some things that I can only ever have dreamed of, but over those years I’ve battled with addiction, depression, and anxiety and it’s been a continuing cycle.
“I’ve really struggled to accept and admit it and I felt so much shame. At times not known where to go or where to look. I felt weak and I lost myself. But I can’t continue that cycle anymore. I need to break it."
Bimini continued to express that despite her challenges, she is grateful for the opportunities that came with the show.
"I have a substance abuse disorder and this is something that is ongoing and something that I am trying my hardest to battle with and deal with. I will get there, I know I will," they continued.
Already, Bimini is seeing an outpouring of support from within the community and from fellow queens too.
"Good for you girly! Sharing this will help so many! But ultimately I hope your at peace and you’re happy and healthy!" read a comment from season four winner Danny Beard.
"I can’t say right now I’m free from addiction," the star added regarding their long journey ahead.
"Addiction is a disease that is always going to be within me, but I’m going to be doing my best to change that. I’m ready to love myself."
