Cardi B gives spotlight to her trans glam squad on RPDR season 18 premiere

Cardi gave some love to her transgender glam squad after guest judging the January 2 premiere of Season 18 of RuPaul’s Drag Race proving once again she is a true ally.

“These are the dolls. I can’t live without them… literally,” the WAP singer said on Untucked, a post-show about what happens on Drag Race behind-the-scenes.

“I don’t care if people feel uncomfortable or whatever,” she emphasized. “Like, I do not care. These are my dolls, and don’t ever get it twisted. The men be looking. I’m not going to spill tea, you know what I’m saying?”

To Cardi, the queens competing in the competition thanked Cardi for being an ally to transgender community.

“This is queer art at its finest,” contestant Mykki Meeks said after Cardi’s introduction. ”“To have an artist of your caliber incorporating our community into what you do, thank you.”

The team is composed of hairstylist, Tokyo Stylez, and makeup artist, Erika La’Pearl. While on the show, Stylez tells the contestants just how big of an impact Drag Race played in her career.

She said the show taught her how to do makeup when she first began her transition. “Just seeing all the looks and stuff, it always inspires me,” she said.

“Even with [Cardi], I’ll be like, ‘We should do this, recreate this and do it a different way.’ You know, sometimes we bring the culture into a more mainstream, hip-hop field.”

Stylez is known as the long time hairstylist for Kylie Jenner, and has previously worked with her sister Kendall Jenner, as well as Rihanna and Beyoncé.

Meanwhile, La’Pearl has worked with Real Housewives of Atlanta stars Kandi Buress and Marlo Hampton as well as R&B singer Monica.

On social media, Jane Don’t took time to express their appreciation for the moment with the hip-hop star.

There are not a lot of women— let alone women in hip hop— who would take an opportunity to give credit to the dolls for their undeniable cultural impact.
