Does Cardi B's new album title reference this Drag Race fave?

Grammy Award-winning artist Cardi B announced the release of her upcoming album, and the name has left Drag Race fans gobsmacked.

Cardi’s new record, titled "Am I the Drama?," will be released September 19. For fans of RuPaul’s Drag Race, that phrase may have had you do a double-take. The iconic line was originally made popular by All-Star’s 6 contestant Scarlet Envy.

In a promo interview for the sixth season of All Stars, Scarlet unknowingly birthed the meme when she pondered: “Is it me? Am I the drama? I don’t think I’m the drama… maybe I am. Am I the villain? I don’t think I’m the villain.”

Envy even left a cheeky message on the post announcing the album, writing: “You are the drama mamaaa.”

Other queens also expressed their excitement for the album’s title. Jan commented, "Scarlet Envy i am shaking."

Drag Race Season 15 finalist Luxx Noir London also posted the artwork to her X profile, jokingly saying that, "Scarlet Envy should sue."

Envy has been a fixture in the Drag Race franchise after competing in season 11 of RuPaul's Drag Race in 2019, in All Stars 6 in 2021, and returning for UK vs. the World season 2, in early 2024.

A representative from Cardi responded to EW, telling them that while the title is taken from her real life, she has a lot of love for the drag artist, even hinting at a potential collab very soon!

"While Cardi's album inspiration comes from her real-life drama, she loves Scarlet Envy and they're in talks to work together soon," said the rep via email.

Cardi fans have no doubt been eagerly awaiting this second record, as her last album was released back in April 2018.

Her debut compilation, "Invasion of Privacy," effectively put her on the map and won the Best Rap Album award at the 2019 Grammy Awards.
