Detox comes out as transgender while getting people to vote

Drag Race legend Detox publicly came out as transgender this week. The beloved talent revealed the news to fans in the middle of a set when she and fellow Drag Race alum Willam performed their track ‘Chow Down at the DNC (Drag Night Chicago).

In a TikTok clip, Detox switches up the lyric “I’m a top” to ‘I’m trans now,” which resulted in applause from the audience members. Detox later left a cheeky comment on the original video writing,“ Cat’s outta the bag!”

Fans were quick to show love and support for the 39-year-old drag legend on social media.

"detox we’ve known. she’s always been a doll," one fan wrote on TikTok. "I always had a feeling but I’m so happy she’s found her truth!" wrote another.

The DNC performance was a fundraiser by Drag PAC, a group of your favorite Drag Race queens who have banded together to encourage the community to get out and vote this election season.

Also performing were fellow drag artists including Bambi Banks-Couleé, Sativa Diamond, Lucy Stoole, and Sheeza Woman.

“We are excited to make HERstory with the launch of Drag PAC, the first-ever political action committee led by drag entertainers!” the PAC wrote on Instagram in June.

“Founded by global drag queen superstars, we’re here to engage, educate, and mobilize Gen Z voters and progressive allies to vote ahead the most consequential election for LGBTQ+ rights in our nation’s history.”

Detox first appeared on season five of RuPaul’s Drag Race where she came in fourth place. She then returned for season 2 of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars where she placed second.
