Drag Race announces spin off set in South Africa

The RuPaul’s Drag Race franchise is expanding! Start your engines South Africa, the competition is coming to you. WOW Presents Plus announces the exciting news via social media this week. 

"We have seen a host of gorgeous, talented queens hailing from across Africa grace the runway over the years," said World of Wonder founders Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato in a statement. "So now it's time for a unique version from South Africa that includes the incredible talent the continent has to offer."

 

 

 

They added, "It's no secret that our mission is to see Drag Race in every continent and country across the world, so this is a huge step in making that a reality."

Fans of the reality competition series have long been championing a spin-off set in Africa since the first season of the US version. It was then that Cameroonian queen BeBe Zahara Benet was crowned the series very first winner. 

Other international versions of Drag Race include Drag Race UK, Canada’s Drag Race, Drag Race Down Under, Drag Race Phillippines, Drag Race España, Drag Race France, Drag Race Thailand, Drag Race Mexico and Drag Race Brazil, Drag Race Holland, Drag Race Sverige, Drag Race Belgique, Drag Race Italia and Drag Race Germany.

Currently airing is the Global All Stars spin-off which is set to crown a winner on Friday. 

According to social media posts, casting for the very first season will begin in 2025. We can't wait to see the queens to be featured in the upcoming season.
