How country star Maren Morris helped raise $100K for trans youth

Over the three-day weekend, the country music world saw some feuding going on between popular artists Jason Aldean, his wife Brittany Aldean and Maren Morris.

The feud started when Brittany posted a video on Instagram doing her makeup to Beyoncé’s “Upgrade U.”

“I’d really like to thank my parents for not changing my gender when I went through my tomboy phase,” Aldean, who owns the clip-in-extension beauty brand XoBritt, wrote in the caption. “I love this girly life.”

Among others, fellow country artist Cassadee Pope, criticized Brittany Aldean's seemingly transphobic comments on social media.

"You’d think celebs with beauty brands would see the positives in including LGBTQ+ people in their messaging," Pope wrote in a tweet. "But instead here we are, hearing someone compare their 'tomboy phase' to someone wanting to transition. Real nice."

Morris echoed the same message, responding “it’s so easy to…not be a scumbag human? Sell your clip-ins and zip it, Insurrection Barbie.”

In a statement posted to her Instagram stories, Aldean wrote that “advocating for the genital mutilation of children under the guise of love and calling it ‘gender affirming care’ is one of the worst evils.”

Within days of his wife’s comments, Jason Aldean was dropped by his longtime PR firm. While discussing the exchange on his television show “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” the Fox News host labeled Morris as a “lunatic country music person.”

However, Morris decided to turn the situation around and make some light out of the comments by selling merch with "Maren Morris, lunatic country music person" along with the telephone number for the Peer Support & Crisis Hotline for trans youth.

According to Morris, over $100K has already been raised and the money will be “ split between TransLifeline and the GLAAD Transgender Media Program,” said Morris in a tweet

“Over $100K raised. Have a great Labor Day weekend, lunatics.”
