Elliot Page introduces 'Umbrella Academy' fans to his trans character

Elliot Page recently confirmed that his character in the popular Netflix adaptation “Umbrella Academy” will come out as transgender in Season 3 of the series. In celebration, he introduced fans of the show to his character Viktor Hargreeves. Additionally, the character will be using he/him/his pronouns.

Page tweeted a new image from “The Umbrella Academy” Season 3 on Tuesday introducing fans to Viktor Hargreeves. Netflix’s Twitter account replied with the message, “Welcome to the family Viktor, we’re so happy you’re here.”

Page played cisgender woman Vanya Hargreeves in seasons one and two. While a teaser for the show's upcoming season, still refers to Page's character as Vanya, Netflix remains silent on how the show will handle Viktor's transition.

Based on the comic book series by Gerard Way, The Umbrella Academy, the hit Netflix series follows a group of children with supernatural powers who were raised by eccentric billionaire Reginald Hargreeves. The siblings reunite to solve the mystery of their father’s death and save the world from an impending apocalypse.

Page, who publicly came out as transgender in December 2020, previously announced his upcoming memoir, Pageboy.

In a statement released by publisher Flatiron Books, “The memoir will delve into Page’s relationship with his body, his experiences as one of the most famous trans people in the world.”

It will also cover “mental health, assault, love, relationships, sex, and the cesspool that Hollywood can be.”

Page recently stepped out onto the Oscars stage with his Juno co-stars Jennifer Garner and J.K. Simmons to present the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

Fans can catch season 3 of “The Umbrella Academy” on Wednesday, June 22 on Netflix.
