LA-based queen, Lauren Banall, went viral on social media platforms after a video of her impersonating conservative figure Erika Kirk. Now, she’s using the garnered attention to support the ACLU.
Clips of Banall’s parody of the have reached well over 4 million views. The most popular video features the performer donning a blonde wig, icy blue contact lenses and patriotic red suit blazer while lip-syncing to audio of Kirk reciting a bible verse at the memorial service of her husband, Charlie Kirk.
Charlie Kirk was a right-wing, Turning Point USA founder who was a favorite figure among MAGA supporters. He was shot and killed at Utah Valley University last September while speaking at the college campus.
Banall’s lip-sync of “Erica Qwerk” continues with Cascada’s 2009 hit, “Evacuate The Dancefloor.”
A second clip sees the drag performer lip-sync to audio from Erika Kirk’s interview with CBS News journalist Bari Weiss, asking Candace Owens to “stop” peddling conspiracy theories about her husband’s death.
After going viral, Banal posted a separate video telling TikTok followers, “Thank you so much for all of this incredible response… It’s truly overwhelming, and I’ve been thinking, ‘What’s something good we could do with this? What would Turning Point USA do?”
“Monetize,” she said before announcing a GoFundMe campaign for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
As of this writing, the crowdfunding petition has raised over $3,000 for ACLU, “so we can block the BS this next administration is doing in the courts! No kings, no grifters, no ICE!” reads the fundraiser description.
The ACLU works to fight for the rights of marginalized and persecuted minorities, including the rights of the LGBTQ+, transgender and immigrant community.
