Eureka pulls out of Tel Aviv Drag Fest after criticism

Drag artist Eureka came under fire this week after organizers announced her in a scheduled gig at Drag Fest in Tel Aviv. Talk of her appearance set off criticism from fans and followers of the Canada vs The World season 2 star right away.

In a social media post, Eureka apologizes for the misguided decision and to perform in Israel amid the political and humanitarian crisis currently happening in Gaza.

“I’ll just stand on all 10 toes when I say… Free Palestine!” she wrote in an Instagram post. “A special thank you to the people that messaged me to discuss this and help me understand what was going on.”

She touched a little on her financial situation being one factor in taking on the event, as she is prioritizing funding for her gender-affirming surgeries.

“Yes, I’m struggling as a trans woman trying to rebuild my life financially and work on my transitional surgeries, but I would never accept money this way.”

In the video, Eureka said she hoped to support the local LGBTQ+ community with her presence in the lineup, but ultimately decided performing is, “not worth what it represents, me going there… So I am canceling the gig.”

Additionally, Eureka decided to part ways with the management team she discussed the event with, saying the situation made her reflect on collaborators with similar beliefs.

“I just want to work with people who understand my morals and ideals.”

Eureka first appeared in season nine of RuPaul’s Drag Race. She returned to the franchise for season 10, All Stars 6 and Canada vs The World season two.

“I am sorry that this has affected anyone negatively, and I appreciate the feedback.”

Eureka concluded her video clip, doubling down on her stance:   “... Free Palestine. Period.”
