RuPaul's Drag Race is a household name, taking talented drag queens and catapulting them to the top of their game. Over the course of 15 seasons of the iconic competition show, there have been plenty of arguments over the crowning of a queen. Even RuPaul himself thinks a certain queen deserved to win during their season.
On a recent episode of Watch What Happens Live, host Andy Cohen asked Mama Ru if there “is someone who didn’t win Drag Race over all the seasons, that in your mind [you think should have won]?”
Safe to say this queen is a familiar face with the Drag Race fandom.
RuPaul answered: “Shangela. Shangela. She’s amazing. We’ve actually put her on the show, like, three times? Something like that. She’s a fabulous queen.”
Since first debuting RuPaul’s Drag Race, Shangela has been a regular, taking on various roles throughout seasons on the show.
After being eliminated on season 2, Ru brought her back the following year where she ultimately placed sixth. Not long after, fans saw Shangela fiercely compete on All Stars 3 against queens like Bebe Zahara Benet, Morgan McMichaels and Trixie Mattel.
Shangela made it all the way to the final four where she, alongside with Bebe, Trixie and Kennedy Davenport performed to a remix of RuPaul’s “Kitty Girl” as part of the finale challenge.
She even dabbles in acting and fans will remember when she got to star opposite Lady Gaga in the 2018 remake of A Star is Born.
In more recent gigs though, Shangela made history by competing on the 31st season of Dancing with the Stars with partner Gleb Savchenko. While she remained a fan favorite throughout the season, she finished in fourth place. Her inclusion marked the first time a drag artist competes on the long-running show.
Additionally she also hosts HBO’s “We’re Here,” alongside Eureka O’Hara and Bob the Drag Queen.
