First ever drag king competition show coming to screen next year

The King of Drag, the world’s first drag king reality competition series, will premiere on the LGBTQ+ streaming service Revry in Spring 2025.

According to a press release from Revry, King of Drag will incorporate challenges that emphasize comedy, unconventional performances, and “timely commentary on masculinity, which has been part of the drag king subculture for decades.”

The reality show gives way for the opportunity to “represent drag while promoting inclusion, authentic self-expression, and diverse gender identities including trans masc, cisgender women, non-binary and more.”

Actor and veteran comedian Murray Hill is set to host the one-of-a-kind competition series, which has just opened casting for its first season.

“I’m so excited to be working with Revry as the host of ‘King of Drag,'” Hill told Variety. “I started performing in 1995, so it’s long overdue for the kings to take center stage. This vibrant community deserves to be in the spotlight, and I’ll be their biggest hype man.”

The series is a big step for the drag king community which has seen a call for more representation in the drag community.

Last year, Pandora Nox became the first cis woman and lesbian winner of Drag Race Germany. We’ve also seen drag king Landon Cider compete in The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula series. However, to see a show solely dedicated to kings will be huge progress.

The six-episode series is looking for eight kings who are ready to compete, and auditions will be open until January 5.
