Florida drag artist raises money for Pride celebrations with bricks from destroyed crosswalk

A Florida drag artist named Miss Bouvèé is rebuilding hope by selling the bricks from a destroyed rainbow crosswalk to raise money for Pride celebrations.

The festive crosswalk in South Beach, Florida, was destroyed in October 2025 after Governor Ron DeSantis claimed it was a danger to pedestrians and prohibited street art from public roads.

The city of Miami Beach, along with neighboring areas, protested the dismantling of the landmark but lost the fight.

While many bricks were reused for a nearby pathway, Miss Bouvèé was able to save a total of 50 pieces. Together with a team, she cleaned, repainted and even framed  is offering them for donations supporting Pride observations in the state.

The bricks can be bought for a tax-deductible donation starting at $250. Those making donations will help raise money for Pride organizations. All purchases will include a plaque describing the location of the original crosswalk, the date of its installation, and the date of its removal.

According to a social media post by Bouvee, of the money raised, $15,000 will go to Naples Pride and $7,500 to Key West Pride. Donations are made to go directly to the organizations.

Miss Bouvèé, whose name outside of drag is Eric Swanson, told a local news station he chose to support smaller Pride parties as a result of Senate Bill 1134.

The legislation prohibits local governments from “funding, promoting, or taking official actions” related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). This would include Pride celebrations.

“This is a part of our history. Your donation helps history continue to be made,” she says in her post.
