Actor Kevin Bacon has joined the growing list of stars who are speaking up and defending drag artists amid various . Via his Instagram stories Bacon gave a shout out to a recent episode of everyone's favorite reality show, RuPaul’s Drag Race.
“Big shoutout to @rupaulsdragrace’s Wigloose the Rusical,” Bacon wrote on Instagram, praising Drag Race queen Loosey LaDuca for her turn as the Rusical’s lead character “Heaven Bacon.”
“With all the recent anti-drag bills, this came at just the right time. Drag is an art and drag is a right,” the acclaimed actor continued to write, before sharing a link to a video of RuPaul explaining how to combat the anti-drag laws.
LaDuca’s responded to the tweet with one of her own. “Well, I’m dead,” the post read.

Much like Bacon’s classic movie “Footloose” in which a small town outlaws dancing, the “Rusical” features a town prohibiting drag. The episode comes amid a time of targeted attacks against drag queens and transgender people.
Earlier this month, Tennessee became the first state to ban public drag performances. Idaho, Kentucky, North Dakota, Montana, Oklahoma and Utah are considering similar bans.
Since the storm of anti-LGBTQ+ laws, many stars have reacted to the news. The Little Mermaid star Melissa McCarthy shared a post reminding people that drag characters have existed in mainstream media for decades, from Robin Williams in Mrs Doubtfire to John Cleese in Monty Python.
Music artists Shania Twain told GLAAD in an interview, “We need drag queens to share their talent with us.”
