Liza Minnelli set to co-produce Off Broadway's Drag: The Musical

The legendary actress Liza Minnelli is set to return to the theater world to help produce Off-Broadway’s Drag: The Musical.

"Kids! DRAG: The Musical is a work of art," Minnelli said in a statement. "It’s so brilliant that I had to join as a producer! Join me at every performance. Yes, EVERY PERFORMANCE!"

The cast is led by co-writer and RuPaul's Drag Race winner Alaska Thunderfuck as Kitty Galloway.  Fellow Drag Race alums have also joined the cast such as Luxx Noir London as Popcorn, Jan Sport as Savannah St. James, and Jujubee as The Tigress.

DRAG: The Musical was written by RuPaul's Drag Race star Alaska, Ashley Gordon, and Tomas Costanza and originally opened in Los Angeles in 2022.

The 78-year-old theater and film legend is a devoted ally in the LGBTQ+ community even being one of the earliest celebrities to speak out during the AIDS epidemic.

“We are so honored to welcome the icon, Liza Minnelli into our DRAG: The Musical family,” Alaska said.

According to the synopsis, the story illustrates “two Drag Houses, both alike in indignity, vie for supremacy in a wig-snatching journey of fashion, family, and forgiveness.

After a bitter split, two estranged queens bring their already simmering tensions to a boiling point when they open competing clubs. In this queen-eat-queen tale of spite and survival, there’s only one rule: no lip-synching allowed.“

The show will officially open at the New World Stages on October 21. Tickets can be bought at DragTheMusical.com.
