Marina Summers is set to host the 2026 Miss Universe Philippines coronation ceremony, making her the first transgender woman to do so.
“UNIVERSE, it’s SUMMERtime,” announced Miss Universe Philippines organizers to social media.
This isn't the first time Summers has made history in hosting duties. In 2024, the queen became the first drag queen to appear on Miss Universe Philippines after she performed her single, “AMAFILIPINA” on the pageant stage.
“So honored to be [making] herstory again,” Summers posted to Instagram. “From being the first drag queen to perform on the Miss Universe stage, to becoming the first trans woman to host the pageant.”
The coronation ceremony will take place on May 2 in Manila. The winner of Miss Universe Philippines 2026 will represent the Philippines in the 2026 Miss Universe pageant, to be held in Puerto Rico later this year.
In February, Summers publicly came out as trans to her followers via a social media post, revealing she had begun writing: “...to all the people i love, i’d like to welcome you in – in this journey,” she wrote, adding a trans Pride flag.
“Since I was a child, I’ve always felt feminine – even deep into the parts that I didn’t always know how to name,” she wrote. “But last year, I finally gave myself permission to stop pausing. And start my transition.”
Fans were first introduced to Summers after placing as a runner-up on Drag Race Philippines season one. She later returned to the franchise for Drag Race: UK vs The World (placing fourth) and RuPaul’s Drag Race Live!
Fellow Drag Race sisters Hannah Conda from Drag Race Down Under season two and Morphine Love Dion of Drag Race season 16 showed support to Marina.
“Sister, crown me pls,” commented Dion on Instagram.
