Music fans received some exciting news this week! R&B-pop icon Mariah Carey and hip-hop star Megan Thee Stallion will lead the lineup of this year’s L.A. Pride in the Park.
The multi-day pride celebration will be held in Chinatown’s Los Angeles State Historic Park this June. Megan is set to perform on June 9, Mariah will headline June 10 and a parade will follow through Hollywood on June 11.
“I’m thrilled and honored to be a part of LA Pride 2023. I am happy to be back in person celebrating with the LGBTQ+ community here in Southern California and throughout all of the lands!” wrote the “Fantasy” singer. “Let’s come together to celebrate love, inclusion, and Pride.”
Megan also penned a message to excited “hotties” eager to see the performer onstage. “I can’t wait to headline LA Pride in the Park and celebrate the phenomenal LGBTQ+ community. This incredible event advocates for diversity, inclusivity, and equality, so I’m honored to perform and have a blast with all of the Hotties in attendance.”
“Having two women of color headline the event was very intentional,” said Gerald Garth, the board president of L.A. Pride. “Both have been groundbreaking in their own rights by centering women’s empowerment. Mariah’s been a fan favorite among the LGBT community for decades, and she’s been a great friend and supporter, and Megan is the same.”
The official theme for this year's Pride season is "All Out with Pride,” with the goal of celebrating the diversity and resilience within the LGBTQ+ community.
The message comes at a time the community truly needs it. Despite efforts to criminalize drag artists and pass harmful trans legislation across multiple states in the country, this year’s pride will no doubt be louder and prouder than ones in past years.
Last year saw Christina Aguilera, Anitta and Kim Petras headlining the event’s concert. Paula Abdul served as the first “icon grand marshal” of the parade.
