Michelle Visage has a hopeful message for LGBTQ+ fans amid a time of uncertainty for the community. While attending a charity gala for The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical on Sunday, Visage spoke with PinkNews regarding the impending transition of power to Donald Trump.
“We are in a very, very scary time, a scary place, but one thing you have to know is we’ve come so far, and [we] elders, so to speak, are out here fighting,” she said to those dreading Trump’s return to the White House along with the anti-LGBTQ+ agenda to come.
Since his run for the 2024 election, Trump and his political supporters have made clear their desire to restrict LGBTQ+ rights, especially those of the transgender community.
From drag bans and policies against gender-affirming care to the rumors of implementing legislation from the infamous Project 2025 administration, the year ahead are expected to be an uphill battle for the queer community.
“We have been, we will continue to do that for you. You can find peace in that and safety in that, and know that you are loved,” she continued.
While Visage is mostly known as RuPaul’s trusted colleague and fellow panelist on RuPaul’s Drag Race, she is taking center stage this year as host of Drag Race Down Under.
The Aussie iteration of the beloved drag competition series is currently in its fourth season. Earlier this year, it was confirmed that Visage would oversee the hopeful queens hailing from Australia and New Zealand for the first time in the franchise's history.
"Ru has a massive, no. 1 best-selling book and had a book tour… and [it] wasn't even a conversation!" Visage explained how she got the gig as host on the UK talk show Loose Women. "He just said, 'You're gonna do this, right?' I was like, 'Well, yes, I am!'"
RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under drops new episodes on BBC Three and iPlayer at 9 pm on Fridays, streams on WOW Presents Plus in the US.
