After 30 years, the iconic Michelle Visage is finally returning to music (and the dance floor) with a new single. The Emmy winner recently collaborated with British pop group Steps for their new song "Heartbreak in This City." The track is a remixed version of the song from the band's 2020 LP What the Future Holds.
In a statement, Visage says “To say that I’m honored to record a song with pop icons STEPS is the understatement of the year.” She went on to say “With the state of the world today, we all need music that makes us feel good, and trust me when I tell you, ‘Heartbreak In This City’ is an absolute BOP! After years of dreaming about it, for at least a moment in time, I can officially be “Michelle from Steps”! CAN SOMEONE PINCH ME PLEASE? I hope everyone loves listening to it as much as I loved recording it!”
Both the song and music video are sickening! In essence, Visage plays the role of a “special agent” who visits Steps in “Heartbreak HQ” to track down those experiencing heartbreak in the city. Together, the artists reflect on troubled relationships while in full-on sci-fi glam.
Though Visage has appeared on a few songs on RuPaul's various albums over the years, she has yet to drop an official single since partnering with the S.O.U.L. S.Y.S.T.E.M. supergroup to release "It's Gonna Be a Lovely Day" from The Bodyguard movie soundtrack. Eventually, the song reached No. 1 on the Billboard dance singles chart in December 1992. Following its success, Visage's girl group Seduction hit the No. 2 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Two to Make It Right."
The newest single is so good in fact, that its release is already being called a dance favorite. Personally, we can't wait for the post COVID-19 club scene!
Only time will tell if Michelle Visage is ready to return to music. Meanwhile, fans are begging for more of the icon!
