A new Miss Continental winner has been named. Peruvian Gadfrie Arbulu won the international drag pageant, held at Chicago’s Riviera Theatre on September 1.
Arbulu performed a mash-up of “Maybe This Time” from Cabaret and “Big Spender” from Sweet Charity as a part of her talent segment.
Arbulu penned a heartfelt message after her well-deserved win: “What an unforgettable weekend. I’m filled with gratitude for the love, support, and encouragement I received throughout this journey. To my incredible sponsors, loyal supporters and chosen family, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
“Your belief in me means everything. This is only the beginning, and I’m beyond excited to showcase the rest of what I have to offer on the Miss Continental stage. The work continues, the passion grows and the dream lives on.”
This year, there were 23 contestants hoping for their chance at the crown and title. Placing second was Lana Luxx, and in third place was Lila Starr.
Arbulu has entered Miss Continental twice in the past —even placing second just three years ago. It seems the third time’s the charm for Arbulu.
Drag Race stars Gia Gunn and Laganja Estranja congratulated the newly crowned queen on social media.
The Miss Continental pageant is held annually on Labor Day weekend and is known for its acceptance of transgender women. Since its beginning in 1980, it has become one of the most prestigious and fiercest competitions in the world.
We’ve previously seen Drag Race alums like Sasha Colby and Brooklyn Hytes from Canada’s Drag Race win the pageant contest.
