Mj Rodriguez, star of the hit series Pose just made history as the first trans actress to win a Golden Globe. The 31-year-old took home the award for Best Actress in a Drama Series.
After her win, Rodriguez quickly took to social media, posting: “OMG OMGGG!!!! @goldenglobes Wow! You talking about a sickening birthday present! Thank you!”
“This is the door that is going to open the door for many more young talented individuals. They will see that it is more than possible,” she continued in her Instagram post. “They will see that a young Black Latina girl from Newark New Jersey who had a dream, to change the minds others would WITH LOVE. LOVE WINS. To my young LGBTQAI babies WE ARE HERE the door is now open now reach the stars!!!!! @goldenglobes.”
Rodriguez also took the time to shout out and thank other nominees in the same category saying, “To the nominees we are Queens. I’m so happy to share space with you! Each and every last one of you women are phenomenal.”
Rodriguez played Blanca Evangelista, an HIV-positive ball competitor who left her ballroom "house" to start her own from the ground up. The show spotlights "the legends, icons and ferocious house mothers of New York’s underground ball culture, a movement that first gained notice in the late 1980s."
Last year’s Golden Globe awards event was surrounded by controversy when the Los Angeles Times revealed the judges and even category nominees lacked diversity. Additionally, there were also allegations of the HFPA (Hollywood Foreign Press Association) accepting gifts from certain companies pushing for certain nominees to win.

As our Chief Diversity Officer, @neilphillipsnet said, “The talk of diversity, equity, and inclusion showers upon us. This is a necessary phase of progress..."
As a result, NBC dropped airing the 2022 awards, and celebrities and industry greats called for a boycott.
