New holiday music from RuPaul gets us ready for the festive season

The “Queen of Drag”, RuPaul is unveiling to fans a festive project to get us all ready for cozy vibes. “Essential Christmas” is a brand new album that will be playing around everyone’s fireplace mantle this year.

To help us transition from spooky season to all things merry, Ru put out a cheeky video promoting his new holiday album.

In the clip, RuPaul is seen walking to a table near his outdoor pool where there is a pumpkin. After picking up the pumpkin and kissing it, he tosses it into the pool.

RuPaul is suddenly handed a small pine tree and places it on the table, signaling the start of the holiday season in a playful way.  Meanwhile, the background music plays his new version of the single “I Just Can’t Wait (‘Til Christmas).”

The new 12-track holiday album features three new songs and some of RuPaul’s most popular tracks from his previous albums. The tracks include tracks like “Jingle Dem Belles (ft. Big Freedia)” and “Baby Doll” a 50’s doo-wop style bop.

When speaking to Billboard about his new project, even RuPaul is surprised at his prolific career in releasing Christmas songs. “I never set out to put out any Christmas records, yet somehow it’s happened that way,” he says. “And I really do love it.”

According to RuPaul, “Growing up, we didn’t have much money, so Christmas always reflected our dour financial situation. But when I met Georges in 1994, I began to redefine what Christmas means to me.”

“Christmas became fun, and loving and friggin’ hilarious. Essential Christmas is a collection of that same spirit – the most fun & festive holiday songs I’ve ever recorded,” RuPaul said about the album. “I’m so excited to spend the holidays with you, XORU.”

Make sure to grab “Essential Christmas” which is out everywhere now!
