Nicky Doll announces suit against Laurence Fox over Olympics opening ceremony performance

Drag artist and activist, Nicky Doll announced she is suing Laurence Fox after spewing hate about drag performers online.

The suit comes after the headline-making Paris Olympics performance drew harsh criticism from Fox and other right-wing conservatives.

Doll and several other drag queens portrayed Greek gods. While organizers say the display was meant to resemble a scene involving the Greek God Dionysus, others said it resembled Leonardo Da Vinci’s iconic painting “The Last Supper.”

This including the French Conference of Catholic Bishops, which described the moment as a “derision and mockery of Christianity” in a statement to Reuters.

Fox shared a video of the performance and wrote, “No point in getting wound up when the child fuckers want to wind you up. Just laugh at the deviant little pedos. Eternity is a bitch.”

In response to `Fox’s post, Doll captioned a letter, which was also posted on X by her lawyer, Anne-Sophie Laguens

“I will never again allow myself and other queer people to be defamed and demonised. If responding with love doesn’t work for some, then responding with justice should work. See you in court.”

The letter reads: “Following the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games on July 26, the artists who performed on the Debilly footbridge suffered an unprecedented wave of hatred and faced the trivialisation of insults due to their sexual orientation or gender identity.

“The lawyers of Stop Homophobie have received numerous reports of incitement to hatred, insults, online harassment, threats and defamation. The firm was notified by Mr Karl Sanchez, known as Nicky Doll, of a defamation complaint filed against Mr Laurence Fox and other users of the social network X (Twitter).”

Fox previously lost a libel case filed by Stonewall trustee Simon Blake and RuPaul’s Drag Race U.K. alum Crystal. Fox referred to drag performers as “pedophiles” on X during a heated exchange sparked by Fox’s complaints about the supermarket chain Sainsbury’s sharing a Black History Month post back in 2020.

According to BBC News, the outspoken political figure was ordered to pay a total of £180,000 in libel damages, £90,000 each to Blake and Crystal.
