Oregon drag artists break hot air balloon record

A group of Drag queens in Oregon set out to break an “unofficial, official” record for the most queens in a hot air balloon.

The historic balloon ride took place on Monday, August 24, in Newberg. A total of 25 queens squeezed themselves into six separate aerial vehicles.

According to local news station KOIN, the queens were up at an early 6 a.m. and began at 7 a.m. For nearly an hour, the queens flew above the clouds, taking in the dazzling landscape.

Local drag artist Poison Waters took to the air and told the news outlet: “The open flame is the only thing that’s a little cautious for drag queens,” local drag queen Poison Waters told KOIN.

“We are going to set the world record as the unofficial, official world record for the most drag queens ascending in hot air balloons at the same time.”

Guinness World Records was supposed to attend and witness the gathering but allegedly did not show up. Regardless, the queens made their record-breaking ascension to the skies and called

Kelly Dorius, the owner of Vista Balloon Adventures, which sponsored the ride, told KOIN. “I couldn’t be happier with the turnout, and I hope that if this is a huge success today, that we can continue doing it in the future, too.”
