A 2024 Paris Olympics, gold medalist has filed a criminal complaint over online harassment in Paris. It’s been reported the file mentions both J.K. Rowling and Elon Musk, according to a new report.
Algerian boxer, Imane Khelif is suing the two figures for “aggravated cyber-harassment” after both made comments online calling Khelif transgender and labeling her as a biological man.
These claims have since been denied by Khelif, her country’s Olympic committee as well as the International Olympics Committee.
Talk that Khelif failed a 2023 “gender test” from the International Boxing Association, which is no longer recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) also added fuel to the flames.
Khelif denounced cyberbullying altogether and said misinformation regarding gender “harms human dignity.”
“I send a message to all the people of the world to uphold the Olympic principles and the Olympic Charter, to refrain from bullying all athletes, because this has effects, massive effects,” Khelif told SNTV in Arabic. “It can destroy people, it can kill people’s thoughts, spirit, and mind. It can divide people. And because of that, I ask them to refrain from bullying.”
According to Khelif’s lawyer Nabil Boudi, the incident is being described as a “misogynist, racist and sexist campaign” against the boxer.
In a post on Instagram, he said that a complaint was filed on Friday with a special unit in the Paris prosecutor’s office for online harassment.
During the Olympics, Khelif faced intense scrutiny over her gender on social media after her boxing opponent Angela Carini forfeited their match, citing a severe nose injury.
Could any picture sum up our new men’s rights movement better? The smirk of a male who’s knows he’s protected by a misogynist sporting establishment enjoying the distress of a woman he’s just punched in the head, and whose life’s ambition he’s just shattered. #Paris2024 pic.twitter.com/Q5SbKiksXQ

“Could any picture sum up our new men’s rights movement better? The smirk of a male who’s knows he’s protected by a misogynist sporting establishment enjoying the distress of a woman he’s just punched in the head, and whose life’s ambition he’s just shattered,” wrote Rowling in an X post.
Musk also re-posted a statement from swimmer Riley Gaines stating, “Men don't belong in women's sports,” and in response wrote, “Absolutely.”
