Pattie Gonia, drag queen and environmental activist launched an initiative called The $1M Dollar Backpacking Trip in an effort to raise money for 8 different LGBTQ+ and BIPOC justice groups.
The event challenges Pattie to a 100-mile hike in full drag glam. The walk will take about a week and each day, Pattie plans to update followers on their journey.
“Follow along to watch my drag slowly decompose in front of your eyes,” Pattie joked in her announcement. “And to help us raise $1 million for outdoor nonprofits that absolutely deserve it.”
Pattie began the trek 100 miles north of San Francisco and will end their journey celebrating with fans and friends at a drag show on December 6 at San Fran’s The Warfield.
The groups benefiting from the fundraiser include Eastern Sierra Conservation Corps, Brave Trails, Camp Kitaki, Vámonos Outside, and two Queer Outdoor Expedition Scholarship funds.
A GoFundMe is also set up for supporters who are able to donate. Donors will be rewarded with a set of Pattie Gonia stickers as a thank you for their contribution.
Pattie is a longtime environmental advocate and is outspoken about their passion—frequently bringing their love of nature to their drag craft.
Like when they went viral in 2018 for hiking in six-inch heels. Or for helping raise a 66 ft long trans flag across El Capitan in Yosemite National Park in protest of the Trump Administration.
Just last week Pattie took to Instagram to call out secretary of war Pete Hegseth for his anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric, while outperforming the politician by completing more pulls and in Drag!
Pattie is surely making a name for themselves as THE climate queen.
