Pattie Gonia's lawsuit continues after rejecting Patagonia's offer

Drag queen and climate activist Pattie Gonia is asking outdoor apparel giant Patagonia to drop its lawsuit against her.

Back in January, outdoor clothing company Patagonia filed a federal lawsuit against Pattie, alleging the environmentalist broke a 2022 agreement when she filed a trademark application to use her name and brand to sell merchandise and promote her causes.

According to the company, she started selling ‘Pattie Gonia’ branded apparel online and continued to create and use versions of our logo."

A brand press release states: “While we wish we didn’t have to do this – and actively engaged with Pattie for several years to avoid this  – it has become necessary to protect the brand we have spent the last 50 years building.”

The Patagonia company is seeking $1 and legal fees, which the drag activist says could actually cost her upwards of $1 million.

Pattie made a statement on Instagram regarding the suit last week. She publicly called for Patagonia to drop the lawsuit and accused them of trying to “erase my advocacy.”

“Patagonia told the media they’re only suing me for $1. What they’re actually trying to do is take away my name permanently and threaten me with more than 1 million dollars in legal fees. This is not a brand conflict,” the statement reads.

“This is a corporation trying to erase an activist. This is how corporations bully individuals who cannot match their resources. Because this would take away not only my activism and career, but also the livelihoods of the team I employ.”

The activist is a prominent figure in the environmentalist community, as she consistently champions for LGBTQ+ representation in the outdoors.

More recently, she backpacked to San Francisco to help raise awareness about climate change and raised $1 million for nonprofits.

On Monday, Pattie rejected the company’s offer to settle. “No deal, Patagonia.”
