Real Housewives of New York adds former J.Crew executive Jenna Lyons

The cast of The Real Housewives of New York City’s reboot has officially been announced, and it will include out businesswoman Jenna Lyons, the former president of J. Crew.

The fans of the Real Housewives franchise were treated with the news during a taping of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen Sunday night at BravoCon in New York City, Variety reported. After the announcement, the new cast members walked out onto the stage, surprising attendees.

The official description for the reboot reads: “From fashion and real estate to philanthropy and social influence, these women have made their mark in NYC and will now share their lives as they juggle careers, family life, and jam-packed social calendars in the city that never sleeps.”

Lyons gain recognition in the early 2010s as the lead designer for J. Crew as creative director and eventually became president. She gained recognition for helping reinvigorate J.Crew and make the brand successful once again.

In 2020, she had her own reality show on HBO Max, called Stylish, which followed Lyons and her team of designers as they collaborated on various projects.

While Lyons inclusion in the series is impactful, she is not the first out queer housewife in the franchise. Last year, former Russian model Julia Lemigova, who is married to tennis great Martina Navratilova, joined the cast of “The Real Housewives of Miami,” becoming the first cast member of any of the show’s nearly dozen American iterations to be in a same-sex marriage.

Aside from Lyons, the brand-new cast includes Sai De Silva, Ubah Hassan, Erin Lichy, Lizzy Savetsky, Jessel Taank, and Brynn Whitfield. Taank will be the first Indian-American on the Housewives franchise, according to Variety.

The original RHONY was put on hiatus after Season 13. Executive producer Andy Cohen had previously confirmed that the former stars would be part of a “legacy” spinoff show. The cast for the new show has not been announced but Luann de Lesseps and Sonja Morgan were confirmed to star in a new spinoff called Luann and Sonja: Welcome To Crappie Lake.

Cohen, the executive producer of the RHONY reboot, revealed we could expect to see the new installment next March.
