Fans of RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under suggest a crazy conspiracy theory about the show's host, RuPaul Charles. In a viral post, TikTok user @thesaintamber questions if RuPaul is even there during filming. And if he isn't there, who are the hopeful queens speaking to throughout the competition?
I don’t think he’s actually there … So, who are they talking to when all this is happening?” Amber asked on their post. “You’re speaking to a green screen?”
As it turns out, others had the same idea. Even more users have weighed in, claiming that there are no scenes where RuPaul is alongside the queens and that the conversations appear scripted.
“So, I’ve clocked three times now, that queens have said, ‘I can’t believe I’m talking to RuPaul right now,’ and that to me says a producer has gone, ‘All right, so we’re gonna edit this for COVID.’” Chatfield claimed in a TikTok video.
To add fuel to the flame, others point out that guest judges – Taika Waititi and the Minogue sisters all join the show via Zoom due to their COVID-19 restrictions.
RuPaul also didn’t speak to any media or do any promotion for the season which was filmed in New Zealand. On the other hand, co-host Michelle Visage was spotted out and about sharing travel images earlier this year.
One commenter blames the footage on a low production budget. Another agrees the backdrops remind them of earlier seasons of Drag Race.
However Art Simone, the second queen eliminated spilled the tea. In a tweet, she said, “Just here to quash the rumours that RuPaul was green-screened onto set. There’s no way we could have the budget after we splurged on those beautiful cement cherubs.”
Another eliminated queen, Coco Jumbo, appeared on The Kyle & Jackie O show this week, saying “I saw her, I felt her and she was there 100%.”
Despite solid evidence for this crazy RuPaul conspiracy theory, it looks like these contestants just debunked it.
