RuPaul to host CBS 'Wordle'-inspired game show

RuPaul is set to host a new “Wordle-inspired” game show on CBS. The show “Lingo” will pin players head to head in a word guessing game and will premiere later this year.

The series announcement comes amid the viral mania over the game Wordle. This is an online game which was recently acquired by The New York Times.

However, this isn't the first time "Lingo" made its way to TV screens. It was first debuted in 1987 on the Game Show Network but was later dropped in 2002.

The upcoming version of the game promises two-person teams attempting to guess words on a grid after being given the first letter.

According to the official synopsis, the show will return along with RuPaul’s “witty commentary” in the background. The victor team will engage in a showdown to return home with a cash prize.

the senior Vice President of alternative programming at CBS, Mitch Graham spoke about the game show and RuPaul’s hosting chops.

“RuPaul’s flair and sharp wit, coupled with the ability for viewers to play along at home, make this a timely show with wide appeal that we’re excited to join our network lineup.”

In a brief statement on the show, the “RuPaul’s Drag Race” host said, “We’re all ready to have fun again, and ‘Lingo’ is the answer.”

Since becoming the legendary host that we all know today, RuPaul has gained a number of roles in television. This includes starring in the Netflix comedy/drama movie AJ and the Queen and another hosting gig for the Logo game show Gay for Play

In addition to his role as host, RuPaul is also an executive producer of the anticipated word game show.
