RuPaul welcomes season 16 queens in new Drag Race trailer

We are finally getting some new insight into the recently announced season 16 of RuPaul’s Drag Race!

Last month, fans were treated to a first look at the brand-new queens vying for a chance at the season 16 prize.

Amanda Tori Meating, Geneva Karr, Hershii Liqcour-Jeté, Megami, Mhi’ya Iman Le’Paige, Dawn, Mirage, Morphine Love Dion, Nymphia Wind, Plane Jane, Plasma, Q, Sapphira Cristál, and Xunami Muse will all be competing in the upcoming season.

A newly posted trailers show just how Mama Ru officially welcomed the bunch into the Werkroom.

“My queens, welcome to RuPaul’s Drag Race season 16,” he says. “From this moment on, you will forever be one of my girls. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to spread your charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent around the mother-tucking world… but you’ve already done that, haven’t you?”

Ru continues, “Now, as the first seven queens to arrive, I must warn you. Several many twists, turns, tantrums, and tiaras lie ahead. But in the end, the winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race will receive a one-year supply of Anastasia Beverly Hills Cosmetics, plus a gag-worthy grand prize of $200,000!”

RuPaul then introduces the first photoshoot of the season.  “Ladykins, are you ready for your close-up? For your first photoshoot, you need to sashay your way to my front porch, ring my bell, and pose the house down… literally!” A doorbell rings. “Oops, I’ve got to run,” Ru says, “I’m expecting a big package. Oh, Pit Crew!”

Similar to seasons past, the premiere is being split into two parts. And in a surprise twist, the talent show's main challenge is returning with some new rules.

MTV previously revealed that contestants will have to rank each other's talent show performances to determine the tops and bottoms of the week, in “Rate-A-Queen."

Even more, the trailer shows a softer side to the queens in the upcoming season. During a clip, a few of the contestants share emotional stories about their experience in drag and acceptance. The season is already being called ‘the most emotional season in herstory’.

Last season, audiences saw the talented Sasha Colby take home the crown and title of America’s Next Drag Superstar.

Set your alarms as Season 16 premieres on MTV and Paramount+ this Friday, January 5 at 8 p.m. ET, with new episodes debuting each Friday.
