RuPaul's Drag Race make history Emmy's nomination history

The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards just released their list of nominations, and RuPaul’s Drag Race proves they are still dominating the awards show.

RuPaul was nominated for the 11th year in a row, officially extending his record for the most consecutive nominations in this category.

“This wonderful news comes as we are filming the 19th season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. We are all extremely grateful for the love, the freedom, and the employment. On behalf of our brilliant, lovely cast and crew, thank you to the Television Academy for 11 gag-worthy nominations. Everybody say: ‘Love!’”

It is an exciting category to see, as RuPaul has lost the award to The Traitors host, Alan Cumming, for the past two years. We will see the two go at it again this year.

Other hosts nominated this year are Survivor’s Jeff Probst, Love Island USA’s Ariana Madix, and Top Chef’s Kristen Kish.

The franchise itself is also being recognized for its significance in television and media. Season 18 of RuPaul’s Drag Race and its companion series, RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked, received multiple nominations across competition, production and technical categories. The program received a total of 11 nominations.

These nominations come after an explosion of the Drag Race universe. From a hit theatrical movie release to the expansion of international iterations and spinoffs of the US competition show, the queens show no signs of slowing down.

Best known for her role on Law and Order: SVU, actress and advocate Mariska Hargitay will host the prestigious ceremony celebrating all things television and broadcasting.

The Emmy Awards will air on Monday, September 14, on CBS and Paramount+.
