RuPaul's Drag Race veterans form Drag PAC

Former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants are banding together to create Drag PAC, a political action committee with one agenda—to let everyone know that voting is fundamental!

The group formally announced the formation last week via a YouTube video. Veteran Drag Race queens, Alaska, BenDeLaCreme, Jinkx Monsoon, Monét X Change, Peppermint, and Willam all serve as founding members.

“Founded by global drag queen superstars, we’re here to engage, educate, and mobilize Gen Z voters and progressive allies to vote ahead [of] the most consequential election for LGBTQ+ rights in our nation’s history,” Drag PAC wrote on Instagram last week.

“We’re in the middle of something historic,” Monét X Change says in a video posted to the official social media account.

“This is the most important election cycle for queer people’s rights and freedoms in our lifetime.

The queens also explained their reasons for getting involved in political activism and reflected on how they could change the political atmosphere for the LGBTQ+ community.

“Well, I think everyone is a little disheartened with a lot of our elected leadership and frankly our community is being assaulted and it’s escalating to violence,” Jinkx Monsoon said in one video.

“There is just so much anti-drag, anti-trans legislation coming from these lawmakers and these are people who know nothing about us,” Willam said.

In recent years, the country has seen a wave of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation.  More than 500 anti-LGBTQ bills were filed this year in state legislatures, according to the American Civil Liberties Union, with 39 of them passing into law.

Even more, 2024 is the fifth consecutive year that the U.S. has broken its record for anti-trans legislation.

According to FEC filings, Drag PAC has raised $20,000 so far with the promise of continuing efforts to encourage the community to get out and vote!
