Popstar Sabrina Carpenter is sticking up for the "dolls" with her recent performance at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards.

Music’s newest pop princess performed her new song, “Tears,” with some help from drag queens and a call for LGBTQ+ rights.

The creative demonstration took the audience to a 90s NYC block party scene with an ensemble of queens, including some Drag Race faces, such as Willam, Symone, Laganja Estranja, Denali, and Lexi Love.

Also joining the performance was renowned ballroom queen Honey Balenciaga, who has notably worked on Beyoncé’s last two tours and was featured in Lady Gaga’s “Abracadabra” music video.

Throughout the set, the stars held up protest signs reading messages of support for the transgender community as Carpenter sang along to her latest smash hit.

“Dolls, Dolls, Dolls,” read one. “Protect trans rights”, “Support local drag,” “Love each other,” and “Don’t hate drag queens because you can’t read” read other signs.

Carpenter was nominated for nine awards this year and ultimately took home the VMA award for Best Pop Artist and Best Album.

"I do want to say to my incredible cast and dancers and my queens on stage with me tonight: This world, as we all know, can be so full of criticism and discrimination and negativity. So to get to be part of something so often, more than not, that is something that can bring you light, make you smile, make you dance ... I am so grateful to do that," she said upon accepting the Best Album award.
