Sasha Colby introduces Chappell Roan at VMA's

RuPaul's Drag Race season 15 winner Sasha Colby took to the VMA stage on Wednesday night in New York.

There, she helped introduce the queer pop star and shared words ahead of Roan's performance of her hit song "Good Luck, Babe!" during this year’s live telecast of MTV’s Video Music Awards.

"Pop music is inclusive, no matter what you look like, who you love, it's meant for everyone, and no one has revitalized that spirit more than this next artist," Sasha said.

"You have all watched her blow up, the Midwest princess is in the house. Your favorite drag queen's favorite artist, here is my daughter, Chappell Roan!"

They awarded Roan four nominations at this year's ceremony — including one for Best New Artist which she took home! In her acceptance speech, the pop star dedicated the award to the LGBTQ+ community.

“I dedicate this to all the drag artists who inspire me. And I dedicate this to queer & trans people that fuel pop,” Roan said as the star read from a diary.

“And for all the queer kids in the Midwest watching right now, I see you, I understand you because I’m one of you. And don’t ever let anyone tell you that you can’t be exactly who you want to be b***.”

Upon Roan’s catapulting career, her debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, was on the Billboard Hot 100, where "Good Luck, Babe!" peaked at No. 6 and arguably became summer 2024’s hottest hit.

Sasha has previously praised Roan for taking inspiration from the drag community. In an interview with EW earlier this year, Sasha said: "Since Drag Race, we are pop, the tastemakers, and pop girlies look to us for inspiration — much like Chappell Roan!" Sasha explained.

"All I can say is, goddess sees goddess, you know? Greatness sees greatness!"
