RuPauls Drag Race star Shangela is getting ready to tear up the competition—the competition on Dancing With the Stars that is!
In an interview with People, Shangela shared just how important her casting is, saying: "I'm the first person to ever be able to compete in drag on Dancing with the Stars in the history of the show here.”
"I hope that we show people that it's all about the heart and soul of who you are as a person. It doesn't matter if it's two men dancing together, if it's a man or a drag entertainer like myself dancing together.
"It's about the spirit of dance and the fun, and the ability to connect and to learn more about other people's worlds."
While Shangela is most know for her stunts on RuPaul’s Drag Race, she recently became one of three hosts on HBO’s We’re Here and was even featured in the Lady Gaga reboot of A Star Is Born.
Shangela and her dancing partner, Gleb Savchenko will take on a group of fiery competitors like country pop singer Jesse James Decker, Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice, platinum recording artist Jordin Sparks and TikTok star Charlie D’Amelio.
"We're changing the world, and I love it," Savchenko said after cast announcement on Good Morning America. "It's all about positive energy, all about love, and we're just going to have a lot of fun, learn to tango, learn all the ballroom steps."
Internet star Jojo Siwa and her dance partner Jenna Johnson became the series’ first same-sex pairing last season.
The judging panel for the upcoming 31st season will consist of Len Goodman, Derek Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli. The season will be co-hosted by Tyra Banks and former competitor Alfonso Ribeiro.
