Shea Coulee is setting the record straight about the infamous “Sandwichgate” incident involving singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor.
Coulee came clean about the rumored incident while presenting at the 2023 Streamy Awards on Sunday. Trainor won the Rolling Stone Sound of the Year Award for her song “Made You Look” when the Rupaul’s Drag Race alum openly addressed Trainor.
“Look, okay, I shouldn’t be doing this, going off script, but I feel like I have to,” she said. “I don’t know if you have encountered this rumor that when you were on Drag Race as a guest judge you ate a drag queen’s sandwich… I made that rumor up. And I’m so sorry!”
The camera immediately cut to a stunned Trainor, who exclaimed, “It was you?!”
“It was me!” Couleé admitted. “And I just feel so bad and I just want to let you know I said it as a joke once on the mic… I shouldn’t even be telling you this, but I am not only a gorgeous drag queen but I am also a compulsive liar and I’m so sorry.”
In 2021, Trinity The Tuck first claimed during an episode of The Real House Husband’s Podcast that Meghan Trainor had stolen her co-star Shea Couleé’s lunch during filming. Trainor previously denied the claims in a TikTok the same year.
“Lmao…why,” she wrote after someone mentioned what is now known as Sandwichgate. “Didn’t eat anyone’s sandwich hahahahaha I promise.”
After her apology, Shea and Meghan posed together for a photo, with both of them smiling and holding hands.
Meghan’s appearance on RuPaul’s Drag Race also left viewers upset when she wore a unicorn onesie while judging the queens of season nine.
Many felt the occasion deserved better than the plush one piece as many celebrity guests typically bring out all the stops for their fashionable debuts and thought her look was ‘disrespectful’.
She later apologized, saying she "never meant to disrespect anyone. I was in the middle of my tour and had zero time to do a fitting and get an outfit and asked the show i could wear my unicorn onesie lol and they said yes. So sorry."
