Stacy Layne Matthews asks for help after being kicked out of family home

Stacy Layne Matthews is asking the community for help after being asked to leave her family home.

She posted a plea on Instagram on Tuesday after explaining to viewers that she was “not welcome” and was asked to leave her mother’s house without a place to go.

“I’m just going to go,” Matthews said. “I’m going to grab some stuff and hit it. I don’t know where I’m going, I don’t know what’s going on, but if there is anyone that would love to help me get a room, that would be fabulous.”

If she couldn't find a place, she later told fans she would be forced to sleep in her car. Matthew’s has shared donation links and her shop, where she sells signed photos and artwork.

The queen has been in an ongoing struggle with housing and health insecurity.

In 2021, she was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and residential evictions that forced millions out of their homes.

She was hit again with a setback in 2024 when Matthews had to cancel a show in Arizona after being hospitalized with spinal stenosis.

According to the Mayo Clinic, this occurs when the space inside the backbone is too small and puts pressure on the spinal cord and nerves.

In a separate Instagram post, the season three queen revealed she is in the process of getting approved for disability benefits.

It was challenges like these over the years that had Matthews debating if she should quit drag altogether.

Matthews is best known for her time on Drag Race season three, where she won Snatch Game with her iconic Mo’Nique impression. Among her talents, she is credited with introducing the catchphrase “henny” to the show’s culture.

While she only placed 8th in the competition, she was an instant favorite among viewers. So much so that she made several appearances on All Stars 4, but has never returned as a contestant.
