Target's must-have 2024 pride merch are a pair of bird figurines

Target revealed its 2024 Pride Collection and fans are going nuts over a pair of bird figurines paying homage to two films considered LGBTQ+ cinema faves.

Two birds in particular are flying off of the shelves.  They are listed on Target’s website as Movie Star Featherly Bird Friend and Beach Poolside Featherly Bird Friend

The website description says the movie star bird was styled after actress Tippi Hedren’s outfit in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1963 horror film The Birds. Meanwhile, fans have said the latter poolside bird roughly resembles an outfit worn by actor Nathan Lane in the 1996 gay comedy The Birdcage.

Each of the figurines is selling for $5 and as a warning to consumers wanting to purchase,  they’re continuously selling out at local Target stores.

"As of Tuesday afternoon, listings on eBay showed resellers hawking it for as much as $41.99," NBC News reported.

Similar bird merch items were also made available last year as part of the store’s Pride Collection. The 2023 version featured a drag queen bird.

Last month, Target made headlines after announcing it would be holding back on its Pride collection merchandise and that consumers would only be able to purchase these items in select stores "based on historical sales performance" and online.

The move comes after the retailer faced backlash from far-right conservatives. Last year, Target said that customers knocked down Pride displays at some stores, aggressively approached staff, and posted threatening videos on social media.

“...we’ve experienced threats impacting our team members’ sense of safety and well-being while at work,” Target said in a statement.

”Given these volatile circumstances, we are making adjustments to our plans, including removing items that have been at the center of the most significant confrontational behavior.”
