Strictly Come Dancing, the long-running British dancing reality competition crowned Tayce and professional dance partner Kai Widdrington as winners of this year's Christmas special.
The pairing beat out fellow competitors like podcaster Vogue Williams (who danced with Gorka Márquez), Gladiator and Olympian Harry Aikines-Aryeetey (with Nancy Xu), actress Tamzin Outhwaite (with Nikita Kuzmin), and racing driver and TV presenter Billy Monger (with Nadiya Bychkova).
This is the first time in the show’s long history that a drag queen takes home the trophy. Tayce and Widdrington’s cha-cha to Kylie and Dannii Minogue’s “100 Degrees” earned them the trophy. Out of the competition, Tayce was the only competitor to receive a score of 10 from all four judges.
“It’s such an honor to be part of this amazing and highly popular show, pushing the envelope and breaking boundaries as the first drag queen to appear on it,” she said.
“Some people may not agree and think drag is overtly sexual and not something that should be on prime-time television, but there’s nothing sexualized about it. Drag has been around for centuries whether people like it or not, so I think this may open people’s eyes a bit and give them a different view.”
Tayce was first introduced to fans in 2021 as a contestant on the second series of RuPaul's Drag Race UK where she placed runner-up during her season. Since her time on reality tv Tayce has graced the runway, modeling for various brands, and starring in commercial ads and gigs as a presenter.
Tayce follows in the footsteps of fellow queens like Shangela, Dancing With the Stars US, Courtney Act who competed on Australia’s Dancing With the Stars, Keiona Revlon who placed fourth on France’s Dancing With the Stars.
