Utica to compete on Project Runway season 21

Utica has been officially announced for the cast of “Project Runway” Season 21, marking the first time a crossover between the two shows takes place.

The well-known queen will be competing alongside returning designers like Jesus Estrada and Caycee Black as seen in a trailer for the upcoming season released on June 11.

While on the show, Utica will forgo his drag name and go by Ethan Mundt, his real name.

The rest of the cast includes Alex Foxworth, Angelo Rosa, Antonio Estrada (Jesus’ twin), Belania Daley, Joan Madison, Joseph McRae, Madeline Malenfant, Veejay Floresca, and Yuchen Han.

The trailer also teases the return of familiar faces like Heidi Klum, Christian Siriano, Nina Garcia, and Law Roach as a rotating judge for the season.

“Walking into the Project Runway workroom felt like stepping into a dream, but even more surreal was walking in wearing something that carries the spirit of Drag with me,” said Mundt.

“This moment marks the first ever Drag Race crossover onto Project Runway, and that’s not lost on me. It’s more than a look, it’s a symbol,” Mundt wrote on Instagram. “A symbol of how far our art form has come, of how the worlds of fashion and drag continue to grow, influence, and uplift each other.”

Avid Drag Race fans will remember Utica from season 13.  Although she ultimately placed sixth, the drag artist was able to stand out to fans as a fashion-forward queen.

But it was her handcrafted “Bag Ball” gown in episode five that truly showed off her talents as a designer. The chic hooded dress was made up entirely of sleeping bags and goes down as one of the most iconic looks in Drag Race herstory.

Project Runway fans will also be surprised to see appearances from additional guest judges like Tyra Banks, RHONY’s Jenna Lyons, Nikki Glaser, Michael Kors, Sofia Vergara, and Joan Smalls.
