The hit series We're Here is shaking things up. EW reports that Sasha Velour, Jaida Essence Hall, and Priyanka are set to take over hosting the Emmy winning show.
Previously hosting the HBO docuseries was the iconic Shangela, Bob the Drag Queen, and Eureka previously led the HBO docuseries. Additionally, the trio led the show's first three seasons to two Emmy victories.
"In this increasingly hostile political climate, we are grateful to [HBO] for their dedication to telling LGBTQ+ stories that meet the moment and document our history," show co-creator Johnnie Ingram wrote on Instagram.
"We are thrilled to expand our drag family and grateful for and give much needed love to the people on the front lines of hate."
The season focuses on two U.S. towns over the course of six episodes, “taking an in-depth and more immersive look at the local political systems and participants, anti-LGBTQ+ legislation and opposition, and their effect on the LGBTQ+ community,” according to the official description.
The hit show first aired in 2020 as the We're Here hosts journeyed across small-town America. As they stopped in notoriously conservative towns, the group aimed to spread the power of drag with fabulous makeovers and over the top drag performances.
However in 2022 former assistant on the series, Daniel accused Shangela of raping him in a hotel room in February 2020.
While Shangela denied McGarrigle's story, a lawsuit was filed against the drag entertainer.
“I can’t begin to explain how hurt and disgusted I am by these totally untrue allegations,” Pierce said in a statement to the Los Angeles Times in May.
“They are personally offensive and perpetuate damaging stereotypes that are harmful not only to me but also to my entire community… An external investigation into this embittered individual’s claims previously concluded that they were completely without merit.”
