In a scathing Twitter thread, “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 11 winner, Yvie Oddly slammed the show’s executives, calling them “capitalist culture thieves.”
Oddly first started her online rampage by praising the current “remarkable” queens saying “ These queens are remarkable! The drag artists are and have ALWAYS been the lifeblood of what makes this franchise great."
However, the conversation quickly turned when discussing the competition show’s ‘higher-ups.’
“The producers are often the greediest, most-calculating, capitalist culture thieves,” she wrote. “They f**k with real people’s lives, career opportunities and health. They drive themselves home in their luxury cars when their contestants are sleep-deprived, depressed and drastically underpaid for their contributions to the cultural phenomenon.
They fuck with real people’s lives, career opportunities, and health. They drive themselves home in their luxury cars when their contestants are sleep-deprived, depressed, and DRASTICALLY underpaid for their contributions to the cultural phenomenon

“Then they tell themselves they’re good people for showcasing queer content and creating opportunities for us, while ignoring the irreparable damage they cause, and creating a chokehold monopoly on how drag artists can succeed.”
She also acknowledged the important issue of inclusivity within casting of the drag competition show. The fact of the matter is that the show is yet to cast any drag kings and that trans performers were “barred from being themselves” until very recently.
Coming to a conclusion, Oddly spilt a final cup of tea that alledged that it took “over a year” for her to be paid the $100,000 she was owed for her victory.
P.S. they took over a year to pay me my winnings because they conveniently kept forgetting they owed me 100k 🖕🏽

However, Yvie Oddly's management team, Voss Events, said in a statement to BuzzFeed, "Management asked that Yvie’s prize money be held as they were in the process of establishing her LLC to receive payment. The money was wired shortly after her business account was opened and payment requested."
Fans of the show and Yvie were quick to share their thoughts on Oddly’s account of her experience while on the show. Most were happy to see the drag star use her platform to discuss issues that need to be changed as well as reveal the reality of the show.
good for you for calling them out 💪 it’s gross to hear about the ugly shit that they’re pulling behind the scenes. how do we support you/what (if anything) is there to do?? do we stop watching? 😔

everyone sending hate is just showing their support for capitalism. i’m sure many queens that were a part of the show are probably feeling the same way.

sending love 💌💌
Nevertheless, Oddly continued to say she is “so so SO thankful” for the show. "I'm hopeful for a future where queer people have opportunities to flourish outside of a fake competition to make a few rich old gays richer," she wrote.
